Indian Trail is a town in Union County, North Carolina. It was established in 1861 and got its name from the Indian Trail of traders who traveled to Waxhaw. The town began as a farming community, and when the Scottish and German settlers moved to Indian Trail in 1907, it was incorporated as a town.

In 2009, Indian Trail was named one of the top ten family-friendly places by Family Circle magazine. The town has established new projects to improve the quality of life of its residents. The two main additions include Chestnut Square Park and Crooked Creek Park.

Seven municipalities border the town, and the proximity to Charlotte has impacted the growth of the town. Additionally, it has an excellent transportation network which adds to its growth and development. Indian Trail is 22.1 square miles in the total area.
